Surgery

Corbin has surgery this morning.... on his teeth. Some of you may have heard, some haven't, so in order to clear up any confusion hear it is straight from the "camel's mouth".

About 4 weeks ago Corbin had his first Pediatric Dental appointment. Nothing serious. While we were there it was discovered that he has a Congenital (defect/damage to a developing fetus) Disease called Hypoplasia. Essentially this was caused by an illness or infection I had during my third trimester of Corbin's pregnancy which adversely affected the enamel development on all 8 of his molar teeth buds at the time they were forming. Who knew? I'm still trying to recall being sick during those 3 months and I can't remember anything, but needless to say...... there's nothing we can do about it now.
The dentist suggested that the best treatment option for Corbin (due to age and size and nature of his disease) is to put him "under" and resurface/fill all 8 of his molars at the same time. In addition, it was discovered that the muscle between his two top teeth is much too large and will cause his permanent teeth to come in crooked, so while he is under he will also have a frenectomy to fix that problem. This treatment option is the best for him because he will wake up after a 1.5 hours and have no memory of the drilling, blood, needles, etc. and hence keep a positive relationship with the dentist for the years to come. After pre-approval and a few miscalculations by our insurance (medical AND dental) company (HEADACHE!).... everything is a go. We're hoping this is the best decision for this situation and that all goes smoothly today. Keep Corbin in your prayers!

Wow! What an off-the-wall problem, but it sounds like you're on top of it and getting it resolved and that there won't be any lasting problems. Hopefully he won't wake up too sore! Here's to a recovery with lots of ice cream :).

Oh that's right! I do remember reading about it a little while ago. Sounds like a lot of work, but that everything will be okay. I know that even though it's not a huge deal (like open heart surgery or something) it's still is scary to send your little toddler under anesthesia. We did the same with Jayden in June when he had a cyst removed. I was a wreck! lol. So I hope you are doing and were okay while this was happening. I hope he feels better soon - since I'm assuming he will probably have stitches? Best wishes to you taking care of him and him feeling better!
